21 student leaders in the University
of the Philippines Diliman campus saw the need for a student-owned
enterprise whose primary goal is to provide affordable and quality goods,
products and services and other requirement primarily of the members such
as but not limited to school and office supplies, a book store, book rental,
photocopying and other services.
May 1995
The UP Students Multi-purpose Cooperative was born. It is the first genuine
student owned cooperative in the country.
October 1995
The cooperative started negotaitions with the UP administration to lease
the area of the former University Book Center at Vinzons Hall.
February 1996
the cooperative is leasing 517 square meters of space from the UP Diliman
administation. The copperative's first project was the renovation an refurbishment
